I’m a Park Run Survivor

Chronically Growing _ Im A Park Run Survivor

So in the last 15 days we have done 7 jogs. As we wanted to slowly ease into the jogging so that my body doesn’t go into over drive with my pole classes and jogging.

We have been keeping a consistent pace of about 10 min per km, and slowly improving

So I’ve been getting quite confident and excited. It’s because the possibility is getting bigger and bigger for me to actually make it. To say the least, I had very high expectations for us to start doing park runs.

But this weekend that passed I did my first park run

I wish I could add that gif with the monkey side eyeing. It was 5km of f*cking pain. We have walked 5km so much. I mean we go on 5km to 15km hikes every month or two. But there is something about being as fit as a snail and it being flu season is not great as i got a little bit of a flu.

We started off the park run so strong, jog for 2 min then walk for 2 min, well that was the plan . So we jogged for 2 minutes, I think for like 2 sets and then my chest was like “noo gorl, you aren’t doing this.” so we just walked the rest of the way.

After everything I sat down and reminded myself that I wasn’t feeling well and that’s what my body needed, and even though I wanted to stay in bed I got up and showed up. And that is where the key lays.

During and after the park run I realized my confidence got lost somewhere when my chest started giving me sh*t. I was so disappointed our average pace was over 11 min per km for the park run. I know this doesn’t sound like a really big difference being only 1 minute. But as someone who apparently runs now I can confirm 1 minute is a big f*cking difference so that was pretty sh*tty.

To be frank, thinking that all of this is prep for Comrades scares the bejesus out of me. Because what is 5km to 90-something km? The answer is not a lot but every little bit counts.

It’s not being discouraged because of one bad day

So I let the park run process and on Monday after some meds and still staying motivated, my pace on my jog on Monday morning was exactly what it usually is (a little better actually) and I didn’t have the excessive cough afterwards.

That really boosted my confidence again and that showed me how important it is to listen to your body. You know where your limitations are past your mind. Every 5 km that I can finish in less and less time will show my improvement and show me how far I have come.

I read a post about the importance of 5km on this website. And I would highly recommend to read it.
