I’ve always been the type of person that gives so much of myself to other people. To the point that I crash out and have a full-on melt down at least once a month and I am fully aware that that is so unhealthy as F*CK. You know the saying you give someone a finger and they take your whole arm or something like that well with me no stress I’ll give you the arm so that you don’t have to hassle to much. And I can’t even say it’s necessarily the people around me taking advantage of me, it’s just me.
Last year December I sat myself down and said f*ck it. (I know that this sounds like some new year’s resolution type thing, but it was everything but that. I’m going to take advantage of this split second of courage and see where I can find a pole dancing class. Now you might be saying to yourself Megan that’s not rejection therapy. And as they say in therapy the first step; The hardest step is making the appointment. The appointment for me was contacting someone that instructs pole.
Me being me knew that once I messaged someone there is no turning back until I at least attended one class. Because I would feel too bad to not reply so that would most likely force me to join a class. (Again, me picking someone I don’t even know and who will frankly probably not care if I don’t come above myself)
My own form of rejection therapy
So to make it even more tricky for myself I implemented my own version of rejection therapy. But it is the other way around.
What I mean by this in rejection therapy you do something where you could get rejected to build up against the fear of being rejected. Now my version is me messaging different people to see which option works best for me and having to tell the other options “Oh thank you, but I found an option that works better for me.”
This might seem so silly, but I’m just always so concerned with other’s feelings over my own. But since doing my version of rejection therapy it’s been getting easier to pick myself and not others and I mean in the sense of not bending over back wards while doing plank to make sure others are happy.
Choosing myself

Doing pole has been one of the best things I could have done for myself and all the relationships in my life because bending backwards started wearing me out in a way that I didn’t know how long I could last anymore. I always changed my plans and things around everyone else, and I just decided with pole that I will not be doing that.
Pole has improved my mental health in so many ways I feel better in my body; I feel better about myself; I’ve been socializing a bit more which is also something so out of my comfort zone. My minds been clearer. I have never in my life experienced so much woman empowerment and that is the saddest thing ever.
I can ramble on for hours about how inspired, empowered and impressed I am by all those strong ladies. For the first time ive found community in a bunch of strangers. (There are men in the classes too but there are like two and from what I’ve seen they are just as impressive).
But bottom-line is find your pole the thing that Inspires you, gives you a sense of empowerment. Something where you can just be yourself and you get encouraged to be so. Choosing me might be pole. But choosing you could be gardening or whatever your heart desires.
